Abstract

|
1. It was shown that the fall sowing tuberous begonia(Begonia tuberhybrida Voss.)in the greenhouse with the regular cultural practices is as useful as that of the springplanting, thus successive culture of tuberous begonia can be practiced as done in Japan.
2. Advantages of the fall sowing was found to be as follows;
a. Period of growth from seed to flowering of the fall sown was 6 to 7 months shorter than the spring sown. In addition, no tuber dormancy was noticed on the fall planted as seen on cyclamen having no dormancy at the young growth stakes.
b. Rate of rotteness on the fall sown ones in the rainy seasons was relatively smaller than that of the spring sown. Rate of the seed germination in the fall was also better than when sown in the spring, which is probably due to aging of the seeds.
